If there's one interesting thing we haven't seen much of in the era of New Modernism, it's the exquisite choices of stone cladding in many Modernist lobbies from the 1950s-1970s. The choice of stone seems to have been a detail that got a lot of attention.

I agree. For example, an iconic structure such as the recently built ROM, cries out for some kind of feature stonework in the main entrance on Bloor. This would be a huge improvement to what now has all the feel and charm of a side entrance to a suburban mall. The rich mineral history of Ontario could be on display the minute you enter the building.
 
^ Good point junctionist. The government buildings at Bay @ Wellesley are also a good example of that.. The other aspect of interiors, especially in institutional buildings, is the great quantity of artwork.
