Transformation AGO (5s, Gehry) COMPLETE

p5:

That sounded pretty unlikely, especially this late in the game.

Strange that they should ventilation ducts here - considering the walkway is exposed to the elements. Maybe there is an element of the design that hasn't been made public? Or maybe it's for the galleria floor vents?

Great update. Thanks GB.

I’m a little disappointed that the glass isn’t curved but it still looks pretty good.

I know the spiral staircase is very popular on this forum, but I just dont like it. I would rather have seen something a little more centred, and stretching across the entire expanse of glass from left to right.

When jaborandi and I did our walkabout several weeks ago we were disappointed by what the framing augured. Now the glass is going on, I'm even more disappointed. Macy DuBois said much the same thing when describing his tour. He liked the galleries, though.

Thanks for the update.
It appears that one of the more dramatic aspects of this project has been deleted.

The original scheme called for a 'tear' in the glass on both ends:

Looks like the AGO has succumb to "value engineering" much like the ROM. How unfortunate. BUT, I still think it's a great project and I look forward to its completion.

What on earth is the point of having those nicely rounded and angled beams if they're going to be obscured (read: covered up) by a hundreds of straight 2x4s? Are the (glulam?) beams supposed to be a different colour or something to make them stand out?

They'll be perfectly visible from inside the gallery.

Not sure if it's low iron glass or not but the transparency is quite exquisite (bent glass or not).

Same goes for RBC... the glazing that is up on the lobby levels is gorgeous. Hope the entire tower is clad this way. Both have a "display case" aesthetic similar to 4Seasons arena which (somewhat strangely) will provide a refreshing new look to downtown... relective glass or tinted glass or cheap glass having been the norm.

Who'd a thunk that clear (very clear) glass would provide such a new glazing gazing experience.
