Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

That disfigurement of the corner is gross (and only from the last few years)

If I'm not mistaken, also the original site of the Club Bluenote, an after-hours soul club on the Yonge Street strip, renowned for the mix of rock and R&B that came to be known as the “Toronto Sound", before its relocation to Pears Ave.

Then. April 4, 1977. This is the west side of Yonge just below Gerrard. We are looking NE.

Now. June 2014.

"And some additional 1930s news from the same paper:"
Prof Goldie.

The CPR Building originally was clad with Tera Cotta Tile.

Oops!
I made a location mistake too, Mustapha.

At one time (1973) the Royal York Hotel was visible from the CNE waterfront.
That's the Tip Top Tailor building (white) on the right and visible in parkland (centre of image) is a Lancaster bomber display.

Goldie, as with this photo, your previous photo also showed storefront housing. This type of housing never fails to elicit a second look from me as I pass by - I find them fascinating.

Goldies post of the Weekly Building Reporter... the newspaper references the new Victory Building. In the lobby is a small public clock marked Rolex; a holdover from when Rolex had their Canadian offices here. Old advertisements from the 1940s up until about 1995 gave this address as their Canadian head office. They are at 50 St. Clair West now; between Yonge and Deer Park Crescent. No watches sold from this location; only service offices.
