Most people know Oakville as a large wealthy suburb, but Old Oakville dates back to the early 1800's and features a significant collection of historic homes. Some of these homes date to the 1830s to 1850s. There are quite a few Georgian homes here, probably one of the best collections in Ontario.

Oakville total population: 165,516
Population of Old Oakville: 17,655

If I remember correctly, my grandparents had the chance to buy the house back in the 70s. At the time it was a funeral home and was selling for relatively cheap. They decided not to buy the house because it freaked out my mom and her siblings. The people who did end up buying it fixed it up really beautifully though.

I love the plaques they put up on the old buildings in Old Oakville. I wish they would expand that programme to include old buildings across the town especially in Bronte and Palermo.

you may get a deal due to people's superstitions but it's still kinda weird. i can only imagine what kind of nasty things took place in the basement (in regards to the methods for preparing bodies).
