Default Concourse building to be saved: R-A redesign

I was talking to an someone involved on the R-A Centre, and it looks like the new Richmond Adelaide tower that was proposed for the corner at Adelaide and Sheppard is being completely redesigned. This is the office tower that was to include the facade of the historic Concourse building. The new tower has been moved to the north east corner of the block, at Richmond and Sheppard. The Concourse building will be retained in full, which is great.

No news on the height, design and possible future tenant of the new tower yet.

great but doesn't make alot of sense - Oxford just spent millions restoring the lesser quality heritage building on that corner nor does that corner have as much cache as the Concourse site

Perhaps he means the tower is just going to occupy the parking garage site. Is the garage site big enough for a substantial office tower?

doubt it however they could also make a massive floorplate by incorporating phase 1

The new tower is supposed to occupy the former garage site and the somewhat lesser quality heritage building site. I think the idea is to front onto a redesigned plaza on the north side of the exisitng R-A tower.

Yes, but remember the hoarding around the Concourse? They evidently just spent a lot restoring *that*, too (the facade, at least--and all things considered, the "restoration" of the Federal Building is no more extensive)

Will the new location of this building have shadow impact on NPS?

It probably will not be 70 stories.

Sounds like they're paying a fare bit of attention to the heritage aspects of the property now. Lets hope they can be as considerate with the design of a new building.

if the new wall and rebuilt facade where the Winston once stood is an indication, Oxford did the minimum to get the building inspectors of their backs

but true ... I did exagerate the 'restoration' to the federal building ... perhaps this new proposed design will incorporate both buildings as the current one has only around 18000 sq ft plates

With its low ceiling heights the concourse wont attract top dollar rent from tenants. Oxford might be better off converting the concourse building to residential and use some of the profits to fund the office building.

Concourse is in really poor shape inside. That said, if you're looking for cheap and small office space it might be a good place to start a business, etc.

And to think that David Miller and Kyle Rae once voted to demolish this building!
