I don't know if anyone posted this yet, but from the project website:
PROJECT STATUS AUGUST 2007
Where are we with the Spadina Subway Project?
The Toronto-York Spadina Subway Extension Project (TYSSE) is gearing up to a full project start in late 2007/early 2008 with a planned revenue service date of early 2015.
Is the Busway to York University Still Going Ahead?
Yes, the busway from Downsview Station to York University will be in place by Fall 2008. The busway will be utilized to feed the subway upon completion.
York University Subway Stations
When completed, York University will be served by two stations and the vast majority of the academic core will be within 500 metres of a station. The Archives Building (under construction) and the Schulich School of Business will be directly connected to York University Station.
Provincial Environmental Assessment (EA)
The EA for the City portion of the TYSSE project (to Steeles Avenue ) has been approved and final approvals for the York EA are expected shortly. Click here for more details on the status of the York EA.
Project Funding
The Provincial contribution to the project has been placed in a Trust Fund and an announcement of the Federal contribution has been made. The Federal contribution is a first for a Toronto subway project and negotiations for a Federal contribution agreement are in progress. The City and York portion of the project will be split 60%/40%.
Federal EA
The Federal contribution requires a Federal EA process to be followed. Final Federal EA approvals should be in place this fall allowing construction to proceed.
Early Construction Start
The Provincial Trust requires that construction commence by March 23, 2008. Design for a sewer relocation for Steeles West Station is currently underway and will be tendered for construction after Federal EA approval is obtained this Fall. The sewer, currently located in the Steeles Avenue right-of-way, will be moved on the York University property.
Governance of the Project
A number of agreements related to the governance of the project have been resolved between the City of Toronto, York Region and the TTC.
Project Staffing
The Trust has released funds to allow the project to begin to hire staff to manage this complex multi jurisdictional project and to move toward full project start up later this year.
