A Zen-inspired Toronto hotel has cracked the top ten in a list of best new places to stay worldwide.
The Cosmopolitan Toronto Hotel, situated on Colborne St. just east of Yonge St., earned the distinction of being the only Canadian spot on Conde Nast Traveller’s 2006 Hot List out of the 60 hotels listed.
Sitting at number ten on the list, it was also just one of five North American hotels on the list.
The 97-room hotel is described by the magazine as straightforward and stylish.
Hotel owner Gil Blutrich is a Zen enthusiast, and designed the interior spaces with the aid of an "energy balancing expert." The bedrooms all contain yoga mats and are praised as "extremely comfortable and chic."
"A hotel stay can no longer be standard, but must offer more than even just great amenities; it must be an extension of what you love about your home and your lifestyle," said Blutrich. "We try to emulate this so our guests truly feel like they have a safe and comfortable haven as well as the style elements that are reflective of their lifestyle."
The hotel was also cited for its hardwood floors and nearly wall-to-wall windows offering views of Lake Ontario and the CN Tower.
There are only five suites per floor, each offering air purifiers, balconies, full kitchens, and laundry facilities. The sheets are 400 thread-count Egyptian linens, and there’s a 32†LCD flat screen TV and wireless Internet connection in each suite.
The Cosmopolitan Toronto opened nearly a year ago, on June 8th, 2005. It’s owned by Skyline International, a Toronto-based real estate development and investment company.
