Suggestion for premium forum membership

It would be great if there were a premium forum membership program. For a reasonable fee, such as $5 per month, users would not see any ads by default and be able to access a premium members-only forum section only visible to them (and yes, it would also allow much more freedom in the premium section, since no one else (not even the bots) can see it). Not just that, but premium users would get a special badge (or similar). This would also allow UT to generate revenue as well.

We've thought about it but are not so sure it would work. Paywalls only work on certain sites (like the Wall Street Journal) where people have no problem paying. Any revenue would be offset by the loss of traffic.

Premium forum membership would be optional though.
