This is a rough listing of articles about the current expansions of secondary institutions in many of Ontario's downtowns. Along with the Greenbelt and recent investments in LRTs this seems to be an important initiative in planning.

Googled where to put this and this came up from 9 years ago! Creepy! Lol anyways I stumbled across the news that Loyalist College is opening a campus on the edge of downtown Port Hope in an old school. Good reuse of abandoned space and will be a boost to a lovely central area. Seems the major thing that they did was paint it black.

Of course, there’s Algoma University in Downtown Brampton, which has been especially big on attracting international students. They are using three buildings already and looking to partner with the City on their Centre for Innovation/Central Library.

Adding some interesting growth context to Algoma.
They started below 100 students in 2017.
Hit 1,000 during Covid in 2020.
Expanded to 2,000 in 2021
then 5,000 in fall of 2022 (City committed $7.3 Million to Algoma)
Planning for 7,500+ once the Centre for Innovation is built. (ETA 2026-2027? Site they are building on has various structural challenges.)

This is in a major city like Brampton that has been fighting decades for a University with one of the youngest average ages in Canada, watched past 2-3 University plans never come to reality.
This expansion is welcomed especially to help clean up and inject life into a struggling Downtown core.
 
Algoma also put up $27 million for expansion downtown against Brampton investing $7.3 Million. Now they're at play to keep the CFI moving forward which was stuck in Limbo when Guelph-Humber pulled out and TMU Campus was cancelled by the province in 2018. Millions were invested in those failed bids and designs, Algoma is the cheapest way to salvage the progress sunk into past investments and keep the local economy alive downtown while also attracting jobs to the city. Rogers, RBC, Herjavic group have invested millions alongside the Feds into the Downtown Cybersecurity Catalyst. A properly accredited University is an opportunity to attract professional employment to the area that's sorely lacking.

This is going into First Canadian Place. Further diversification of the Financial core. Also haven’t heard anything recent about Western’s plan to renovate a building on Talbot in London. 🤔

^Great! The relocation of a few departments from King East to Limberlost may open up some redevelopment opportunities. But what I have really been waiting for is a new campus somewhere along Eglinton West! Cressy is on it! Lol
