The recent child killing at Costco by a senior citizen driver has led to police charges. http://news.nationalpost.com/2014/0...sed-emergency-c-section-which-left-baby-dead/

Is it time to rethink retail parking lot safety and design? Is the risk of the storefront-smashing old aged driver the unfounded cliche or a real and growing concern? http://www.cbc.ca/news/canada/addison-hall-death-are-mall-parking-lots-too-dangerous-1.2720179 Driver stats from the USA are here, http://www.storefrontcrashexpert.com/storefront-crash-statistics.html show that pedal and other operator error was the leading cause of the storefront crash, with more than half of the drivers being 60+ years old.

Focusing on car to building impacts, in Florida, AKA "God's Waiting Room", there are calls for retailers to take proactive measures to protect against the risk, http://www.miamiherald.com/2014/08/06/4275069/a-crash-course-why-do-so-many.html

This website is dedicated to awareness of the issue. http://www.StoreFrontCrashExpert.com With the known risk, I imagine retailers will be compelled from a liability POV to deal with the issue.

The bollards at the Costco near me look wide enough for a car to slip between. They should add bollards, but space them to still allow the carts to slip through.

I think they're that far apart specifically to fit cars, fork lifts and trucks into the front doors.

I agree they should be closer together, like here in front of Best Buy.

Motorists are a crafty bunch. They always find a way around the bollards.

Jeez....

Considering the damage to the Ford, I have to say that bollard is made of stout stuff. A coat of paint and it's likely good to go. They don't go that far down into the ground, but obviously sufficient so.
