I used to live near Front and Bathurst and before I moved in, what I didn't know was that periodically there would be strange stinks wafting through the air. I found out later that it was because there was an abbatoir on Tecumseh (west of Bathurst).

I assumed it might leave to cheaper and more highway accessible areas sooner rather than later, but it stubbornly stuck around... Until now. After one century at the site, it is finally closed, felled by a porcine virus, rising costs, lower sales prices, and bumper to bumper traffic.

I wonder what the site will become. More residential? Probably, since the company itself asked for the area to be rezoned to include retail and residential. Rumour has it they've been offered $70 million for the site by a developer. Indeed, the area is part of a city revitalization / rezoning study.
