Interesting article about the effect of automated driving on road capacity and transit:

Personally I could see streetcars in exclusive ROW or LRTs being easier to automate than anything involving steering, assuming things like collision detection works.
If that works well, the next step is probably streetcars in mixed traffic, then steerable vehicles.
