Just a little pet project I've been working on over the past couple of days - not sure where to put it, so why not here?
Out of curiosity I decided to do a Google search for a list of the oldest current hockey teams in Canada (at any league/level) and was rather surprised not to find one. So, after a quick bit of research I've begun to compile my own list of current Canadian clubs, franchises, and programs, in various sports, started before the centennial year of 1967 (or, in the case of hockey, before 1950 due to the large number).

I've listed the teams by date, with their original name (in brackets), if applicable.
Dates with an *asterisk denote an "intermittent brand" - that is, a famous name that has been applied to various teams, in various leagues, at various times (and sometimes simultaneously) which seems to represent an overall "tradition", for lack of a better term - with the founding date of it's most current iteration (in brackets)

I find it interesting that the use of FC in soccer team names in Canada dates back to 1896. While it still may be a pretention on the part of modern teams, they can at least argue it is a part of the sport's heritage in the country.

I just find it interesting that Canada still even has these almost completely ignored soccer clubs with real histories and tradition, yet the highest level of the sport in this country is represented by a couple of fake expansion teams in a fake expansion league...

Same(ish) name, but technically unconnected to the still operating (and re-named) original franchise, hence the "intermittent brand" distinction.

Speaking of hockey though, two other teams to add:
Aurora Tigers (1913)
Innisfail Eagles (1947)
