On Thursday June 13th the City of Toronto and Waterfront Toronto co-hosted a public forum on the Gardiner Expressway & Lake Shore Boulevard Reconfiguration Environmental Assessment (EA) & Integrated Urban Design Study at the Metro Toronto Convention Centre.

Over 300 hundred people attended the meeting, have participated online through Twitter and Facebook.

At the forum, a presentation provided participants with:

An overview of the EA process and its objectives;
Information about the Gardiner Expressway’s historical development and current significance to the City;
Case studies from other municipalities which have dealt with similar elevated expressways;
Four alternatives to maintain, improve, replace or remove the eastern portion of the expressway from Jarvis to Leslie Streets.
Design ideas, commissioned as part of an international design study, were also unveiled to the public for the first time at the forum. These ideas correspond to three of the alternatives: improve, replace and maintain.

We invite you visit the project website at http://gardinereast.ca/participate-online where you can participate in an interactive session on the four alternatives and have your say about which designs and key ideas you think should be part of the solution for the Gardiner Expressway East. You can also run your own meeting with our workshop-in-a-box. A video recording of the session and the presentation slide deck are also available through the project website – www.gardinereast.ca. Submit your ideas and comments before June 28th to ensure they are included in the first phase of the consultation process.

Kind regards,

Facilitator's Office
