Here are a few pictures I took downtown on Thursday.

Bicycle from Toronto

Well, here's a bicycle from Toronto - an early 1970s CCM Elite, made in Weston. But this picture wasn't taken in Toronto. Any guesses?

Bellwoods Avenue.

Very nice pic! I've got a Supercycle but it looks nowhere near as stylin' as that ride. If they still sold a bike like that, that's what I would have bought.

The following are by no means beautiful photographs. What I find interesting about bike racks is how the composition of bikes changes depending on location.

These are all at Finch Station. There is a shortage of parking. I got the last spot when I got there, and there were already a bunch of bikes locked to fences.

It is a handsome ride isn't it? I often pause over particularly good looking or special bikes. They can be such works of art. In the case of the Bellwoods bike, the patina of age adds even more charm.

Absolutely. Good to know I'm not the only one who doubles back to take a look at a handsome bike parked on the side of the street! Actually I was looking at a similar bike parked on the end of one of the shelters at Finch station, but someone came and rode it away before I could take a picture.

Finch looks like it could use the bike lanes built injunction will the LRT line. It was shown in the early renderings, and it's important to make those Transit City bike lanes happen now that we're going ahead with the LRT lines. We won't have an opportunity like this one to make cycling safe and viable in the suburbs for perhaps a generation or longer.

It is disappointing that they include bike lanes in these designs, rather than bike paths. Most people simply don't feel safe riding next to cars in 60km/h zones, even though it technically isn't very dangerous.

The usual justification given against bike paths is that it would require more substantial construction. But that obviously isn't relevant where the street is being rebuilt anyway.
