The TTC has introduced a new Time Based Transfer Pilot Program along the 512 St Clair route.
A Time Based Transfer allows you to travel for up to two hours on the 512 St Clair route. You can board a 512 St Clair streetcar or bus at any stop, in any direction, until the expiry time shown.

I guess it is not new, but I just learned there is such a thing. It is supposed to be TTC's "pilot study". Do you think it is likely to be implemented system wide? Vancouver has been doing this for years.

As greedy as TTC is, I am not sure what has driven them to do anything nice.

It seems to be the general consensus that they'll have to go to this as part of Presto.

There's an April 2005 Commission report from when they approved this pilot project - http://www3.ttc.ca/About_the_TTC/Co...05/May_11_2005/Other/Time_Based_Transfer_.jsp The pilot-project started in July 2005.

As they are 6.5 years into the pilot study, and it's only 3.5 year now to full Presto implementation, they might as well simply keep it going in the relatively short time left to when it will be necessary system-wide.

The reason is because of the disruption to St. Clair due to the construction of the ROW. Thats when it started and still ongoing till business picks up. Lots of businesses closed down during the period.

The TTC has said the whole system is moving to time-based transfers before the new streetcars arrive.
