Copper's second shot of Queen and Spadina looking east. What's that spire in the distance? Looks like old City Hall but it seems to be on the south side of Queen.
 
A sad contrast: the view up Bay Street showing Old City Hall standing proudly against the skyline after surviving the great fire - and the same view with ROCP towering over it.
 
Those are some impressive pictures, it's unbelievable how much Toronto has changed in 1 century.
Rotterdam has also changed beyond recognition. But old cities, like Utrecht or Dordrecht, have seen little change in their central parts.

Babel: Why "sad"? The old City Hall stood proudly then as a symbol of civic pride and continues to do so now (although partly obscured by scaffolding recently). ROCP and other taller buildings in the core speak of the progress the city is making, just as the City Hall building did in its time, but don't detract from it IMO.

Now if you were referring to elevated ramps in the foreground as "sad", I'll certainly agree.

Wow. We really gave over University Avenue to the car.

Also, I don't think Babel is against ROCP. I think he's just saying that someone at the City should have had them alter the project slightly in order to protect that view. Certain views are worth protecting and I feel this should have been one of them.

Wow, the building at the corner of Front and Yonge, which was replaced by the EDS building, is beautiful! What a loss.
I've read about a Post Office that once stood at the terminus of Toronto Street at Adelaide (I think I've got the streets right) and what a beautiful structure that was. Anybody have any pics?

Old City Hall, a significant civic building that was once the seat of our municipal government, was designed as a terminus to the view up Bay Street from the south. It survived as such for over a century until that view was ruined by a second-rate condo tower.

I think that some views should be considered as "heritage" - just as some buildings are - and this was one of them.

A reflective glass tall condo tower south of ROCP cold restore the look of the old vista. Are there any remaining sites along Bay Street?

I have to confess that I've always held Toronto City Hall with affection from the very first time I ever laid eyes on it. Happened to look over all kinds of family albums over Thanksgiving and noticed a photo of Toronto City Hall.

So what I'm sharing here is a photo I shot of an old photo (hence the reflection). Still. For the keeners among you, I'm sure you can tell me approximately when our family City Hall photo (bottom one) was taken.

I'm also intrigued as to whether ours was shot before or after the one on the left generously shared by Copper1212.
