Remarkable photos demonstrating that much of Toronto has remained relatively untouched for decades and that the glamorous version of Toronto we see on most of the UT threads is only part of the story.

I don't know, a lot of those pictures like the ones of the junction or obviously the old fish market one are focused on particularly unflattering bits of very gentrified livable and culturally diverse areas.

Keele and Dundas for example, is by all means a 'chic' and cute intersection with a great sandwich shop frequented by smiley well-off locals. This is a picture of of the same intersection taken by me, without doing the slightest effort to make it look glamorous:

Likewise, the context of Market Street in St. Lawrence is as follows:

The wall depicted is that little one immediately to the right of St. Lawrence market, and is being restored to be turned into the 'fish market' restaurant.

Good pics, though.

Well, I guess one person's "unflattering bits" are another person's "character" or what have you. I guess when it comes to Toronto I've always had an eye for more of the "Kids of Degrassi Street" vibe than, say, "Degrassi The Next Generation"...

Also, while The Junction is indeed a work-in-progress towards some sort of gentrification, there are still some spots in the area that have nothing 'chic' or 'cute' about them - i.e. around the actual "Junction" - Junction Road, Pelham Park, etc.

I don't know, when it comes to Toronto I've always had an eye for the more rustic, "Kids of Degrassi Street" kind of vibe, so to speak ;) - as opposed to the "glamorous version" as charioteer said.

Yes, I understand some people love the 'grit'. I do believe however many of those pictures can't be used to prove Toronto's renaissance has left many behind when, blocks away (or even across the street) from where those pics were taken you can see unbelievable changes! Take Eastern and Carlaw - not a nice area, but the Queen St. bit a block North of it, which used to be no better, now has Dark Horse, Prohitibion Gastropub, and a number of other up and coming businesses as well as a number of condos being developed.

My issue was with thecharioteers interpretation rather than with the pictures themselves :)

My favourite pic is the Denarda st. one. The Mercedes ad as locals ride their bikes is brilliant contrast.

For RC8 - some less "unflattering bits" from now and then...

^I'll take that as a compliment! ;) - though that honestly wasn't my intent.
Believe me, I've seen much skuzzier sites around this town...

Anyways, here's a couple pics from this last week - Dawes Road & Eglinton East:

And here's the road to the IBM/Celestica offices, off Eglinton. (Does anyone know if this has an official name? It's pretty long to be just a driveway!):

I believe this is a private (no-name) road - built originally by IBM and now, I expect, owned by Celestica.
