I couldn't find a general thread for Toronto's events and festivals, especially the smaller/newer ones that might not deserve a whole thread.

I went to the Slutwalk on the weekend and had a great time. The meaning of the over-all walk may have been serious but the event was rather fun and festive. It's great to see all the quirky events going on in this city. Toronto does seem to have more than it's fair share of eccentrics and I love it!

Here are a few videos I made of the Slutwalk. (the first of it's kind in the world) It will soon go global, as more are planned around the world.

Great idea for a thread! I was at Slutwalk yesterday (you caught me in that first video), and it was indeed a great crowd with wonderful energy. It's always great to rally for a worthwhile cause and have fun while doing so. Kudos to the organizers.

If anyone's interested, Upper Class Recordings and The Indie Machine will be hosting a concert on Thursday, June 30th, 2011 at The Silver Dollar Room (486 Spadina Avenue Toronto, ON). The concert starts at 9pm and lasts til 1am. Also, the tickets are cheap (only $6) and the line-up lincludes DVAS (http://www.myspace.com/dvasmusique) and Christien Summers (http://www.myspace.com/christiensummers) with special guests Wet Dreams (http://www.myspace.com/sleazydreamz) and Spirits (http://www.myspace.com/spirits). Below I've posted a link to the facebook event page.

Hey, did you guys know that Chinatown (the downtown one) now has a night market every Friday & Saturday from 5 pm to 11 pm? It started July 29th and ends September 10th. I just found out about it yesterday, while walking in Chinatown. It's not very well promoted because I didn't see anything about it on the news or the net. I hope it has some of the great food the T&T Night Market had. The flyer says cultural entertainment, Chinese fortune telling and live performances will be featured. It's nice to see some Asian culture brought to Chinatown. (and the FOOD!)

It's located on Huron Street, one block east of Spadina, on Dundas.

DO NOT waste your time going to this event. This has to be a new low for the Chinatown BIA! I used to think the Chinatown Festival was the worst BIA sponsored event in Toronto but this so called "Night Market" easily takes the title. This event consisted of a few tables with books and pamphlets but not much else.

The was NO street food. (None at all!) Why would they waste their time to close off the street and print ads saying they had "cultural entertainment and live performances" when there was none of that stuff to be seen?

I was HUNGRY and very disappointed, especially after enjoying the Waterfront Night Market. (the food was SO GOOD!)

The Chinatown BIA should be ashamed of themselves. They have reached a new low. If they don't want to spend the time and money to put on a decent event, then they shouldn't do it at all. What a waste of space.

END OF RANT!

(Yep, I'm pissed!)

According to the site they did a 'test drive' a couple weeks ago:

This weekend July 22nd and 23rd, we are holding a test drive for the night market. We are offering FREE booths to our dear Chinatown stores. First-come, first-served.

I'm guessing it didn't go so well ? Maybe you should send them an email.

James North SUPERCRAWL - Hamilton, Sep 14-15

Though not a Toronto Festival, Hamilton's Supercrawl had over 50,000 people stop by over a two-day period in 2011 and will be even bigger this year!

A festival celebrating Hamilton's diverse Arts/ Music Scene, it takes over James Street North between the CN Tracks (future site of the JamesNorth GO Stn) up to & including Gore Park at King St.

It runs Fri Sep 14 - Sat Sep 15th @ Midnight (though the afterparties are still poppin).
