Sadly, the Sun is the only paper I have seen mention the fact that GO buses can now use the DVP shoulders between York Mills and Lawrence (kind of like the 403 in Mississauga between Mavis and Erin Mills).

If you haven't read the Sun for a while, prepare yourself for a treat! It's gotten even more insane!

Another headache on the DVP

The war on the car continues. This time the battlefield is on the Don Valley Parkway.

In fact the bicycle-socialists have established a new front that ought to help pay for some new environmentally-friendly bunny suits for our free spending councillors.

“Open Sept. 7: $85 for mis-use,” said the flashing electronic sign which alternates that message with “GO Transit bypass lane.”

Just like that Toronto Police brass have another fishing hole to waste their officer’s time to vigorously enforce instead of assisting with the city’s dozens of unsolved murders. If your home gets broken into, there will be no investigation but there will be a robust effort to enforce these phony new GO bus lanes.

At a cost of $120,000 to the Toronto taxpayer, GO Transit has a new 2.5-kilometre lane — northbound and southbound — between Lawrence Ave. and York Mills Rd, which was previously the shoulder.

It will now be a lane strictly for GO buses and if you succumb to the temptation to venture in, you are not only facing an $85 fine but two demerit points. And don’t forget the $90 fine for violating Ontario’s “yield-to-bus” law.

No fines ever seem to happen to any of these useless politicians, though.

While this is part cash-grab and part road-block, the Cadillac conservationists — who go on carbon-emitting jets on money collected from these fines — will say this is going to make Toronto the greenest morning rush-hour in North America.

All this really does is make your life harder — unless, perhaps, you are on one of those 100 GO buses which will have 10 minutes shaved off their trip.

Wonder what it will add to the trip of the ostracized motorist? No one seems to care about the 20 minutes stolen from the north Toronto commuter on Jarvis St. thanks to the new bike lanes built for Councillor Kyle Rae’s 100 cycling friends.

Sad that for the cost of the $1 billion G20 weekend, we could have had a rail-link run all the way up and down the Don Valley instead of a few coats of paint that will make the DVP even more dangerous.

Once again they have stuck up regular people with another disgraceful, distasteful and rapacious robbery of law-abiding and contributing taxpayers while the real criminals laugh out loud.

It’s called the war on the car but it really is a war on the average taxpayer, many now living on minimum wage while being driven to, protected and serviced by public sector service workers making close to or more than six figures.

Meanwhile struggling families, many whose jobs have been stolen by slave labour countries, must pay these new fines, fees, taxes, levies, delivery charges and permits, with their third salary source — their already maxed-out credit cards which ding families with interest rates at 19%.

How fourth-rate failures like McGuinty and Miller can look in the mirror is beyond me. Our role has now become to service the Service Industrial Complex that is there to serve us but has flipped around so that we serve it. It gobbles up every penny in a society that no longer creates anything but new ways to soak our money.

This is just another money-collection trap in a long line so plentiful we can’t even remember what they all are any more. Beaten, and with their pockets exposed, many have simply put their hands up in surrender.

The truth is there really is no war at all.

That article is the perfect example of why I use the sun to wipe my ass. If this were a high school essay it would receive a zero..... 85% of the article has nothing to do with the GO lanes and the other 15% is extremely uninformed.

I just made the mistake of reading the comments on the Sun's link...... Geez society is truly doomed if these people are able to reproduce.

I could barely get past the first sentence, gave up about half way through.

The real crime is not that the buses can now use the shoulder lane, but the lack of potential they are being used for. Why only for a short 2km stretch, and not the entire route? Why not TTC rush hour express buses as well? Why not improve service along the corridor (both GO and TTC) to create a BRT-DRL route? etc.

Besides, Mississauga has had bus shoulder lanes + HOV lanes for years now. Is Hazel on the transit side of this "war on the car"?

Every now and then The Sun does produce a well thought out article. This is not one of those times.

I'm guessing this is a pilot project and will be increased over time....

the reason they don't go south of Lawrence is because the bridge supports for Lawrence, the train bridge then the twin tunnels don't give enough clearance. I'd hope that the project will be expanded once infrastructure is updated as these bridges are all from the original DVP build in 1962-1963

It's great that there's an outright lie in this article - no one's commute has been delayed twenty minutes because of bike lanes on Jarvis. The only notable thing about the Jarvis bike lines is that life went on and the world didn't end.

Ridiculous article. Why would we NOT want to use the shoulders for GO? Sheer idiocy.

Another quality Joe Warmington article. You should see his pics in the Sun hardcopy. The dude actually thinks he looks tough wearing a fedora! What a douche.

Warmington is only useful for making Sue-Ann "Socialist Silly Hall" Levy look reasonable.

I'm almost looking forward to "Sun TV" - the all "news" Canadian answer to Fox News. It will make Fox News look serious when they have morons like Warmington as their staffers.

I suppose it should be pointed out that these bus lanes have not resulted in lanes have being taken away from cars? The whole article is laughable.

Joe is not the only one going down the "blame everything on the great leftist conspiracy" road. Ezra Levant is now a regular, and Peter Wormington's articles are full of paranoid rants on Muslims, and anything that is remotely left-leaning.

People I know don't read Toronto Sun new articles anyways. They just look at the Sunshine Girl and the sports section.

Good grief. I don't read the Sun. What a freak!

How can anyone take such a publication seriously?

Here's hoping...

The shoulders continue after the bridge, so the bus could merge into traffic and back into the shoulder after passing the bridge. On topic, if Joe Warmington thinks traffic is bad now on the DVP, imagine the bottleneck created with people driving in the shoulder lane and merging right at the very end...
