Community Consultation Meeting Avenues and Mid-Rise Buildings Study

These meetings help identify which properties have potential. I've been to half a dozen of these meetings for the Bloor Dundas study and have found them to be somewhat informative.

Curious as to why Steeles is ignored in this study? 6 or more lanes wide, right across the city with every section of it well serviced by transit, you think it would be a natural for intensification. The section of Steeles between Yonge and Bathurst in Toronto is lined with rear yards of semis and townhomes on large setbacks. On the north side in Vaughan it is virtually all retail mid to high rise condos and seniors residences.

I believe it's just a case of the city turning it's back on the 905. This is the ass end of the city and we intend to treat it as such.

Dufferin Street Avenue Study

The Dufferin Street Avenue Study has just had its last meeting. Input is accepted before May 7th.

The study from Lawrence to the 401, including yorkdale frontage was launched in response to Treviso, Dream and another future multi-building project. The city is redesignating the area from employment lands to mixed-use and retail (Yorkdale) with areas pre-approved for mid-rise or high-rise buildings.

I attended and presented a review of the study and Yorkdale, primarily from a pedestrian perspective, along with advocate Michael Black. The DTAH study team did not expect street retail to be successful along Dufferin St, and so we proposed a strategy to support this, and avoid the fate of other sterile suburban Avenues like Sheppard. While the reply contains many local examples and pictures, the target audience was the planning team.

The McDonald's at Dufferin and Lawrence moved south to Dufferin and Risa, which is now the nearest McDonald's (and free Wi-Fi) to me.
