    TTC: Other Items (catch all)

Something to remember the next time the operator runs into Timmies mid-route! :)

Toronto GO Transit: Davenport Diamond Grade Separation | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Wouldn't a third track fit where the track was that was left operational during the construction? Or have they already used that for a second track?

Isn't that what we do at Yonge and Dundas?

Gosh, Liberals are slowly catching up. Pretty meaningless less than half-way through the term.

Norway maple a weak tree? They have a very long lifespan. But yes - really, who cares? If the damn thing is massive, then it's helping the whole CO2 thing whether it's local, European, or whatever. Worst invasive species here is humans.

Anyone who has tried to work with Metrolinx is well aware that there's little thought out environmental concern in what they do. Look at Smalls Creek a few years ago. After the local uproar, it was amazing how many fewer trees they removed, especially on the south side.

Those corridors along Jane, are just artificial embankments, to carry the roadway. If anything they should be removed and converted to an open structure. Also they are very sloped.

I'm still puzzled where they are supposedly currently building communities in floodplains in Alberta. Which doesn't seem to the case, unless you are using a 10,000 year return period.

    Hamilton Hamilton Line B LRT | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

Ah, I see. Thanks. Though I'd think the Canada Line is closer to LRT than subway or heavy rail, given how short the trains are. But we are way off-topic. Don't we have a thread for fannish transit definitions?

My point was that it wasn't only Vancouver building metro systems. Hmm - though did @innsertnamehere mean Vancouver was only (currently) building metro systems - which also wouldn't be true, as they are currently building a new Canada Line station in Richmond - which doesn't meet the definition...

... and then there's the LRT they replaced with nothing. Vancouver is doing well. But there's more new subway stations under construction in Toronto than Vancouver.

    Metrolinx: Other Items (catch all)

Why would you assume she's being performative, when her reputation for the last 15 years is for doing, if anything, the opposite? And why would someone need an FOI for the organization chart? The government itself keeps their entire organization chart on their website, right down to the office...

I'm not sure it's that simple. That would end the Portlands; most of which is (or at least was) in the 100- year floodplain. Certainly true in Eglinton though!

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

I can't find a good map of the development, but as far as I can see from the website, it's the block bounded by 105 St NW, 96 Ave NW, and 104 St NW. I've highlighted below on the 100-year flood mapping from https://floods.alberta.ca/. It's about 200 metres north of the 100-year flood plain. And...

    Toronto Eglinton Line 5 Crosstown West Extension | ?m | ?s | Metrolinx

One might do something for historical communities. But build NEW communities in flood plains? Ignoring the obvious reasons, and the new twist of insurers ending the practice of insuring homes in flood plains, there's other reasons. One is that it then increases flooding on the same river...

I suppose they could add some pickleball courts. What do you suggest they build in that floodplain?

They cleared Corktown pretty fast after they did the Demolition there a couple of years ago. Also, is 2026 for station construction, or the pits for the TBMs?

    Toronto Crosstown LRT | ?m | ?s

Presumably that will only get worse with the moves to reduce the number of people coming to the country that will work.

Somewhat shorter trains. Let's not go overboard here. Published Finch West capacity for the 96-metre long trains there is 584 people. The 92-metre Sheppard trains are 720; the old T-1 trains on Sheppard were 668.

    Montréal Transit Developments

If the Montreal Metro doesn't use batteries, how does it limp to the next station? At least it did in the early 1980s.
