I hope you're all sitting down: Annie's (the illustrious tavern at queen & parliament) is closed for good.

    Toronto Broadview Hotel | 28.65m | 7s | Streetcar | ERA Architects

It feels like this has really stalled as of late. Considering the initial expectation was fall of 2015 (i have no idea how they considered this realistic), i've been eager to see this complete and to have the scaffolding removed from Queen & Broadview.

This will make the absence of a nearby LCBO that much more apparent; the beer store at Gerrard is also going to get crushed. That said, as a local, i'm totally okay with what lies ahead here.

Seems like the mismatched window is gone. UT gets action. Now we just need people to complain about some kind of downtowned relief-type line.

There's been a short film made about the history and people of 90 Sumach. Lots of great background about its story as a CBC props / production building, not to mention a ton of ukulele music, making it instantly heartwarming...

100%, or when you get there with 20 minutes to spare and everything's still pretty well put away and closed for the evening.

Bay Adelaide Centre West Tower (Brookfield, 50s, WZMH)

Must be to accommodate the Deloitte sign. Can't imagine having them both face the same direction, one on top of the other.

Table17 announced Friday that their last service will be July 11th. The building / assets have been for sale for a bit, so the announcement doesn't come as a huge surprise, though they'll certainly be missed in the area. According to Colliers (10mb PDF), they're looking to sell as a turnkey...

So after a solid 9 months of being 'closed for renovations', it looks like the Dominion has sold. It seemed that work was being done in fits and starts, sporadically over the months. We got a brief glance in the other week and the inside looked radically different. Over the last couple years, it...

118 Sumach Street - Renovation and 3rd floor addition (B Sq. Design Studio??)

I'm excited for this - I was trying to guess what this would be for a while. The New Regent Variety store always reminded me of what i'd expect to see in a convenience store in The Road. Dust on everything and that smell... (that said, the neighbourhood could also benefit from a new convenience...

So then the first 4400 series to ever run over that stretch of king. This champagne's not gonna pop itself!

Ha. My wife and I were walking to work along King (east of Parliament) at about 8:45 when one of the new streetcars went past us. We were trying to watch it go to see if it was turning down Sumach, but lost sight of it. Guess this is what we saw.

Hopefully they give it the same treatment as the Corktown Underpass murals (where you can just wash idiot tags clean off). I was heartbroken when I saw ALIEN (Allen?) sprawled across one of them, and equally elated the next day when it was gone.

    Riverside

It looks like La Carnita is set to open next week, according to their instagram. The Riverside stretch is starting to become densely populated with a great mix of restaurants. Also, i thought this thread could use a bit of love.

    Yes - there's one now.

I've seen on a number of occasions the light turn red and people still drive through the intersection to turn right. However, because the north/south walk signals are offset from the north/south traffic signals, you now have someone crossing King on foot while a car with limited visibility is...

The new traffic lights at King & Sumach still feel like they have some bugs that need ironing out. If you're northbound at that intersection, you're sitting about 15 meters south of King. When the light turns green, it's green for less than nine seconds, making it impossible for more than 2 or 3...

    St Lawrence Market

We went into SQ on Monday for lunch and talked with the Karl, the owner, about the plans for the 211 location. Since the Moss Park Restaurant (being shuttered as the owner, an older Greek man is retiring) is much larger than the 4 seats at the current location, he's looking to get it licensed...

In my mind, it's basically one of those Kitchen Stuff Plus warehouse sales, but somehow worse.

    Leslieville / Studio District

Bingo. 7-day a week breakfast, snacks and drinks late at night. (And the Riverside thread has zero love these days, so i get putting it in here)
