On the plus side, it always looks dirty, so cleaning costs can be cut dramatically.

A good example of why starving the system of money until PPPs look like a good idea is never really a good idea.

Okay, so all the complaints about Queen Street? About driving on Eglinton? About the King Pilot Program? Or shall we pull the vintage Rob Ford "St. Clair Disaster" moniker out of the cupboard? Drivers are almost always the ones who complain most about transit, pedestrian and cyclist...

I'd be surprised if anyone but Apple ends up in this space. It's built to Apple specs, it's in an area of town in which they want a presence, and it's just an overall attractive property in general. On the flip side is that it's a premiere brand that makes the property look good, fits into...

They’re angry at the carbon tax because idiots like Poilievre keep feeding them BS about how it’s what’s causing all the problems with the economy. That same guy is also telling them “freedom” is owning two cars on a half-acre lot in a SFH suburb somewhere far away from a city. We’re nowhere...

Don’t give me that BS. “Be glad you’re getting a handout now, after being starved for most of your life”. We’re catching up for nearly 50+ years of transit austerity by building transit planned 30 years ago. We aren’t addressing current needs, we’re addressing the needs we had a generation...

Rental and home prices are pretty unaffordable across the entirety of the GTA. Further outside the major population centres (say travelling from Shelburne to Toronto) they're going to be paying an inordinate amount in gas every week anyhow. Low-middle class stand to benefit most from money going...

Won't anyone think of the cars?! C'mon. Transit systems still aren't back to pre-pandemic levels in most cases, so there's already room to grow. Additionally, tolling with the specific intent of supplementing subsidy to transit seems more than doable, as many cities have done/already do that...

Road Tolls should be first. But outside of re-electing the NDP at the provincial level, I don't think Toronto will ever be treated as "grown up" enough to do so within its own borders; and the GTA will outright revolt if there's anything on the greater network.

I will admit to mistaking the 2022 fare revenue numbers for 2023 ($300m+) But the argument still stands. Getting more cars off the road will cause the highway system to run much smoother. With increased ridership also comes non-fare income (advertising, etc.) and fixed costs on the GO line are...

If we're going to spend hundreds of millions ($200m+ last estimate I saw) subsidizing truckers to clear up roads, you're likely to get better results and spend less money making the entirety of the GO network ($110m revenue in 2023) completely free. At least trucks are a relatively efficient...

I wasn't thinking necessarily with her. There are many Ford shoes that could drop to could cause folks to want to distance themselves. Like the RCMP investigation, etc.

Perhaps I should have added "…relative to car drivers."? But with speed limit governors and sheer amount of experience, I will say that truck drivers by and large drive more conservatively and are less likely to cause the types of problems that lead to a traffic slowdown.

Many trucks already use the 407 anyhow. Trucks aren't what cause congestion though. Most drivers are pretty competent and safe. It's the single-occupant-vehicles that are almost always the problem. The great irony of car culture is that improving things for those drivers almost always leads...

Good luck with that. The 407's not going to ever even the chance to be free for about what? Another 65 years? It's a cash cow for the consortium that currently "owns" it.

It was always effing terrible. In the past I've run personal tests, turned off my mobile data and tried just using the TCONNECT along the Line 2 from Yonge station to Kipling. It's not worth it. I can't verify but it always seemed like access points were only ever installed centrally on the...

I believe mechanics are generally supplied by the manufacturer as part of the purchase. I get standardization of the track widths, but standardization of rolling stock means less flexibility and a greater chance of a systemwide problem. If all Flexity trains were found to have a potentially...

When you toss in several years of taxpayer funded election campaign advertising exclusively for the OPC with restrictions on every other party, it would appear so.

I walked by it on Thursday, and it truly is beautiful. It didn't occur to me until now how much it mimics the work done at the Dineen building 140 Yonge (@ Temperance)—From the dark restored original street-level frontage to the solarium-style top floor add-on...
