Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

The pony pic reminds me of door to door photographers. I recall them walking the streets with their pony and camera. If you wanted your child's portrait taken they would stop and take it. Payment up front at time of "sitting" and get the portrait mailed to you in a few weeks. Does anyone else...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

It's much cleaner now than it was originally! It had large orange microwave antennae hanging off of each corner probably three high. It is engrained in my mind as I spent many a late night looking at the skyline around our Flemingdon Pk. apartment. Even from the rooftop for a time. As to the...

    Pleasure Valley

Yes, school camp trips, they were interesting times for some. I remember grade 6 we went to the Island Natural science school for like a week, that was really cool! Orienteering, going up in the lighthouse, taking the temperature of a huge compost pile, and riding an old TTC bus around the...

    Unique Houses in Toronto

I really like this house! But as a single home it does not make very much sense to me. Imagine it as three "Euro" style flats and one top floor studio. Separate the stairwell with frosted or block glass. There may even be room to squeeze in a paternoster, although I wouldn't be sure they are...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

My mother worked there! As I remember she said she put detonator caps on the bombs. She always complained that the early fluorescent lighting damaged her eyesight. She would travel from Wilson and Bathurst by TTC and sometimes on the way home would stop somewhere along the route, on high spot...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

This shot also shows the fluorescent lighting, original to the Gardner, that was inside the tubular railings. These were especially evident on the ramps and kind of short lived. They had maintenance problems as you can see in the gaps in light. You can still see the empty fixtures in some rails...

    Toronto skyline

Nice shot Rudy! We used to live on Davies, right in your shot, before we moved to Whitby 11 years ago. I grew up in the Flemingdon and Thorncliff areas as well so I'm quite familiar with where the shot is from.

Jasonzed's myDrone Activity of Toronto and Area

There was a TV documentary on the subject. Seems the airflow patterns have changed which has led to some other changes. Google might find said documentary.

Yes, there was! I believe it was under construction, adding the new upper levels. It sat, burned out for quite some time before they made what I still believe is the illegal top floor. There is a Playter Blvd just to the north east of here. Edit: see that in the wiki link.

    Evocative Images of Lost Toronto

Not knowing the full route of the Winchester car, and not knowing what it looked like before the front addition, I would say Saint Lukes United.

Very nice! If I may, Dufferin Mall mid left field, lower right angled intersection is Dundas, Lansdowne and College. Drone flown from MacGregor park? Edit: Assumptions done without help from maps.

    Urban Wilderness!

We regularly see these soaring around cottage country, as far as Bancroft in my personal experience. The lake we are on is in North Kawartha, there are 6 or more soaring around at times. During last weeks storm we actually had one fly over our backyard in Whitby. Very low, at rooftop level. They...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

I was briefly involved in the demolition, and felt very sad to see it all go. I feel the same way when I think of what Ontario Place once was and is now. Something of a comfortable feeling in these 70's public spaces, at least to myself. Must be what I exposed to at a certain age.
