CityPainter is right, the site was officially listed last week after months of waiting for Build to pull the trigger. I am surprised that there isn't more chatter given its prominence.
Don't think that there will be a park on the site, it's certainly not be marketing that way.
I would imagine that most (but certainly not all) two parent families consider the average price of a 3 bedroom condo in the downtown area (at least $500k) and would elect to move out of the core to a townhouse, semi or even a single. It may not be quite as convenient but all things considered...
My mistake, I didn't know that they had built any high-rise before.
Even more odd that they would try to sell after getting approvals if they're a builder.
If downtown TO is a desirable and appropriate place for families to live in three bedroom units in high-rise buildings, why are they not being built already?
Great looking building, nice scale at a corner that is less than appealing at the moment. Five years ago it would have been almost inconceivable that this corner could be a residential building of this quality.
We really shouldn't poop on a building because it doesn't have 3 bedroom units...
I thought this article Globe was reasonable and highlights the challenges with policy initiatives in places like Markham where tall buildings seem to be shunned in favour of mid-rises:

Strongly recommended.
Glen, don't listen to cheesy and condescending insults. At least one person is reading your comments with interest.
The City needs a serious rethink of the way it does some things as there are big challenges ahead. I can't say I agree with many of your points but dismissing your ideas as...
Well said Mike in TO. There seems to be an impression out there that developers just rake in profit without considering the large risks that are taken on and the fact that many projects never see dime one (just take a look at the massive losses to the US builders).
Pardon my ignorance but what is that amazing building? Is it the Registry Office that you refer to?
Here is another view of the site. The Registry Office was built on the block in the middle of the photo, and our store is the one-storey building at the right edge.
The Mimico that I know and love is not so "well to do". There are some pretty rough edges in the area but I agree that the location and proximity to GO and the streetcar along with relatively low housing prices point to updside.
Long Branch to the west is also an intriguing corner of the...
