    Toronto PATH Retail

Harbour Eats by Mercatino has opened at 1 York, up the escalators from where the other retail will be, on the same level as Pure Fitness. Haven't tried it yet, but they have several different sections - tacos, panini, salad, pastries and coffee, etc.

I actually did just that....probably nine or ten months ago. I was told it would be addressed once construction wrapped up. I can't believe that others have not as well.

    Toronto Eaton Centre

There are enormous banners up at the north end (old Sears space) advertising the imminent return of the Jays shop (I am assuming the same one that used to be in Sears).

Yes. Even the windows. Ugh. I don't believe I've ever seen a window crew working there. (And yes, still a chunk of teal glass missing about ten storeys up, west facade just in from the corner).

More FCP drywallings in the Food Court as of a couple of weeks ago, and more closures. The Swiss Chalet is now walled off. Signs are out talking about constructing a new bridge between the two sides of the food court, whatever that means. There is apparently a Dr. Bernstein diet clinic open...

Along with the "public art" lighting that has never been turned on, there is *still* a chunk of teal glass missing about ten floors up.

    Jysk

There's been a Jysk in Whitby (Thickson Rd. and Victoria, just south of the 401) for years (5+) It's sort of IKEA lite. Much, much smaller than IKEA, lots of build your own furniture and quirky small goods. Also, no meatballs or cinnamon rolls.

It's been like that for a couple of months now. According to their website, Szechuan Szechuan seems to be closed permanently (looks like the focus will be on their Szechuan Express stores, at least downtown).

    Toronto Eaton Centre

I saw a notice on the doors on Tuesday about an upcoming announcement of new stores. I believe it was scheduled for either today (6/5) or tomorrow...

Miscellany Toronto Photographs: Then and Now

I grew up in Ohio and it was always "cole slaw." Just "slaw" must be a regionalism.

    Restaurant Comings & Goings

I wish I could find the article where this was reported, but the latest scuttlebutt I read was that we're looking at 2015 for the Cactus Club opening now.

    Ajax Vision at Pat Bayly Square | ?m | 25s | Medallion | Arcadis

"Redevelopment" is probably the wrong term for this development, which is on a huge, previously-unused parcel of land. This, on the other hand.... http://www.durhamregion.com/news-story/3880785-major-development-for-ajax-downtown/ This will actually mean tearing down the Ajax Plaza, one of...

    Random Ontario retail nostalgia

I remember hearing something that the guy who owns the rights to TGIFriday's in Ontario isn't allowed to operate restaurants here because of some legal issue. There also used to be a Friday's at Pearson. No idea if it's still there.

    Random Ontario retail nostalgia

A few (relatively recent) memories: I moved to Toronto (and Canada) in 1990. I came here several times on vacation with my parents before then, starting in 1983. Pre-move memories include Woolworth's (I remember driving past the Woolworth's building on Bay St. where the Trump now stands)...

Yep, my pet missing teal-coloured panel (west side, close to the corner, about 10-11 floors up) is still missing. I'm convinced they simply do not give a rat's patootie since it's hard to see from the street, and hey, it's nice inside and has high ratings and all, so why bother? Sigh.
