Thanks for posting that. We will be continuing the fight on many fronts so please support the cause. So far, the support keeps hovering around 88-90% despite repeated calls for the opponents to vote NO (ie. 100 km/h needs to stay).
We need to end this absurd situation that we currently have...
Yes, they have much higher octane # (up to 98) and higher taxes on just about everything. I still don't see how that relates to the provincial speed limit and our personal driving habits here in Ontario.
I personally don't mind harsher licensing rules at all and would support such initiative - I wouldn't go so far, though, as to say that this would be a pre-requisite to changing the limit. Remember, we don't drive at 105-110 today to need further education to drive at 130. We already are doing...
Exactly... somehow the politicians have become experts in that regard. The most likely reason is that safety and PROPER use of the road (ie: at a speed for which the road is designed for, for MAJORITY of the drivers and cars) are not a topmost concern when the government decides (speeding...
Fair enough... Those wishing to drive BELOW the new limit (remember - this is still legal! Yet hardly practised due to outrageously unrealistic current speed limit) would be perfectly fine staying in the slower lane and cruising with the trucks regulated at 105km/h. A higher speed limit does not...
I am not 100% sure if I agree with the notion of enforcement being the key. Do we really need the authorities to always tell us what to do and force behaviour by fear and punishment? I don't think so.
I'll present a few examples. Snowy morning. Do we need the cops to know that if the conditions...
Precisely, this is what this campaign is all about - not changing any existing habits drastically - but simply TO RECOGNIZE OUR CURRENT DRIVING PRACTICES which as you've stated, do not leave that many dead on the road - quite the contrary - Ontario has some of the highest practiced speeds...
Absolutely! Even if some stretches/ramps or what have you are not the greatest, that does not mean that the vast majority of our 400-series highways are not plain excellent and able to offer a limit of 120 to 130 (simply keep the 100km/h limit in the most dangerous - or shall I say - less safe...
Most of the comments here are right on and precisely fit our campaign. We also believe speed limits around the entire province are way too conservative for the quality and characteristics of our roads (mostly straight and flat) but we intend on putting up a fight about the 400-series limit which...
If need be, we will keep this going until the new election.... And make sure they hear about this every day. If the number of supporters continue to be at 85% or so, they'll have a hard time ignoring the issue. Thanks for your feedback.
Thanks for all the comments, guys.
Our plan is to not just talk about the initiative but actually push it much, much further. The poll results (about 200 votes so far) show about 85% approval rate so we simply do not believe the will of the people can be ignored any longer (by keeping the...
We are gathering public support for legalizing 120 km/h on Ontario’s highways. Speeds of 120-130 are currently the norm. We want to give both the drivers and the police clearer rules to abide by instead of widespread violations as it's currently the case.
