The Incredible Bulk of Rack House 'M' doesn't fit alklays definition of "in scale" with the surrounding industrial buildings any more than the Pure Spirit tower does.

Any Forum Member: That new Clewes building is out out of context - too large - for the Distillery District.

Urban Shocker: No it's not.

And if you say it a forth time, it may just become true.

While there is a complaint by supporters of these developments that the people opposed are unable to explain what is "out of scale," I have yet to see the ardent supporters provide a clear definition of why they are "in scale." Talking of creating a "new context with scale" is a rather bloodless statement. It only points out what is happening there, and nothing more.

In opposing this development, charter member of the "colonial-Williamsburg" crowd alklay says that "out of scale" means not the same scale. Rack House 'M' is obviously not the same scale as the former industrial buildings that surround it, by this definition, yet he thinks it would make "an incredible space for a modern art gallery" rather than be replaced by a lower podium building that is more in scale with them. Go figure.

Perhaps someone ;) did inhale, after all.

Rackhouse M is part of the complex. It's one of the buildings which can be used to judge if any new developments are in/out of scale.

Why would anyone want to key the scale of future development to the hulking Rack House 'M' when the whole point of the exercise is to improve the area not overbuild it?

Meanwhile, avoiding slipping on this obvious red - or at least hot-pinkish - herring,

Does anyone have any final stats regarding the height of the building? Also - is the parking ground level - which looks distressing in parts - meant to hold retail along the length of Mill Street and the interior courtyard, or be parking all the way along or partially? Any info is welcome.

Perhaps the bulk of this thread should be moved to a more general 'Distillery District Development'. I'm getting sick and tired of having to plow thought pages of irritating contrarian bulls*^t when I'm just looking for a photo update or recent information.

Apologies for blowing my stack, btw.

Here's the whole fascinating thing from a distance, Sept 17, 2007:
