In the off season there is no service to Centre Island so you'll have to take the Ongiara ferry to Ward's Island. If you stand at the front of the boat you'll probably get soaked.

Android: The clock tower of the closed North Toronto Station on N. Yonge Street looks good...
It is hard to believe that this is used for an LCBO Store today...I am glad that it was saved...

I remember doing research about GO using that Station as a North Toronto downtown bypass station but due to the heavy
freight train traffic that rail line has it is not feasible now and if it was used riders would have to use the busy TTC Yonge Subway
to travel to Downtown and other destinations along the Yonge Street corridor...

"The Lakeshore", as it was/is known included Mimico, (homes), New Toronto, (homes + industry) + Long Branch. (largely homes + industry)

There are some great pics on the Toronto Archives re Lakeshore Road giving Mimico the lion's share it seems. Major topograpical changes

due to creeks/ravines have altered the area to what is now. These are mostly from Parklawn Road to Mimico Avenue. Few of these have been

documented that I can see, although pics must be available somewhere.

"As towers get bigger and bigger, there may come a day when the CN Tower's views will be compromised."

I can't say I would lament such a loss. The CN Tower is certainly a singular design, it's height and boldness being its most attractive qualitites, but I can't convincingly claim it is beautiful. I've often thought it looks sterile, cold and isolated from the rest of the city. Indeed, it was originally isolated, surrounded only by parking lots and train tracks. I think as Toronto becomes more dense, and old CN is surrounded by other towers, it will assume a more comfortable and attractive role within our skyline.

By the way, thanks for the photos!

If there's one interesting thing we haven't seen much of in the era of New Modernism, it's the exquisite choices of stone cladding in many Modernist lobbies from the 1950s-1970s. The choice of stone seems to have been a detail that got a lot of attention.

I agree. For example, an iconic structure such as the recently built ROM, cries out for some kind of feature stonework in the main entrance on Bloor. This would be a huge improvement to what now has all the feel and charm of a side entrance to a suburban mall. The rich mineral history of Ontario could be on display the minute you enter the building.
