Spadina Subway Extension Emergency Exits
|
There is more evidence on the surface of subway lines than just stations; there are also emergency exits. As much as one does not want to think about having to use one ever, and as seldom as they are used, the buildings are yet being paid some architectural attention so that they won't be mere boring boxes and eyesores where they appear along the length of the Spadina subway extension. Designed by Stevens Group Architects, each of the 7 exits along the route share the same basic structure to reduce costs, but each has its own distinctively styled cladding to keep things interesting. Had the cladding not been unique to each exit, UrbanToronto would likely not have sat up and taken much notice, and yet the structure's curving three-sided design merits attention too.
