Leslie Barns Streetcar Maintenance and Storage Facility, image courtesy of TTC
The TTC is committed to making its services accessible and modern. As part of this commitment the TTC will be replacing its current fleet of streetcars with new, low floor, accessible vehicles. In order to maintain the new fleet the TTC is building a new maintenance and storage facility, located at the corner of Leslie and Lake Shore. Built to Toronto Green Development standards, features of the facility include a storm water management pond, new trees and enhanced streetscaping. Russell (Connaught Avenue) and Roncevalles Carhouses will remain open to store approximately half of the new streetcar fleet.

A new streetcar track will be installed on Leslie Street from Commissioners Street to Queen Street to connect the City's streetcar network to the new Leslie Barns. Prior to the track construction, a number of significant infrastructure improvements are underway including upgrading aging sewers, watermains and utilities.

Streetscape enhancements along Leslie between Queen St and Tommy Thompson Park will include wider sidewalks, customized street lights and hundreds of tree plantings around the future facility. Pockets of Queen St in the Leslieville BIA at Rushbrooke, Curzon, Leslie and Hastings will be upgraded.
