The Forensic Services and Coroner’s Complex (FSCC) project is a DBFM project sponsored by Infrastructure Ontario and the Ministry of Community Safety and Correctional Services and consolidates the Toronto operations of the Center of Forensic Sciences (CFS), Office of the Chief Coroner (OCC), and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Unit (OFPU). Co-location and a central gathering space called the Forensic Commons will enhance collaboration between the agencies. LEED Gold is a sustainability target for the high-security facility.

The FSCC design emphasizes natural daylighting and sight-lines to the exterior for autopsy stations, laboratories, offices, and the two courtrooms operated by the OCC. The CFS departments housed in the FSCC include biology, toxicology, chemistry, firearms, document and photo analysis, and electronics. The facility also includes vehicle examination bays, ballistics facilities, and Canada’s first Containment Level 3 autopsy suite. The FSCC will also improve the OFPU’s ability to cope with mass fatality events such as airline crashes.

The facility will also accommodate expansion in the numbers of scientists, researchers, examiners, and administrative staff within the CFS, OCC, and OFPU.
