Vertechs Design

Vertechs Design

Vertechs Design Inc. was established in 1981. The principals, Mary Jane Lovering, Dip.P.T., B.L.A., and Inese Bite, B.L.A. have a wide range of experience working on diverse project types. These include research, recreational settings, children's play environments, housing developments, educational facilities and healthcare settings including long term care, acute care, chronic care and rehabilitation and palliative care.

Expertise has been established in the traditional areas of landscape architectural design and construction. The firm's experience is augmented by a strong understanding of the particular issues related to site planning, programme requirements, safety and security issues, accessibility, budget constraints, maintenance and microclimate issues. Although each project is addressed on an individual basis these concepts over all are applied in an economical and practical approach for each design problem.

Vertechs Design Inc. has spent considerable energy researching issues related to environmental sustainability. These principles are routinely applied throughout the conceptualization and detail development of the site. Mary Jane Lovering is a LEED(TM) Accredited Professional.

The principals have a combination of education in the fields of physiotherapy, gerontology and landscape architecture. With this background and experience, Vertechs Design Inc. is particularly well-suited and committed to providing specialized programming and design services in the field of therapeutic landscapes for adults and children.

Over the past twenty-nine years, Vertechs Design Inc. has conducted original research in the design of outdoor environments for special populations. These findings have been documented in numerous publications and form the basis of the firm's design principles that have been applied in specialized settings including gardens designed specifically for individuals with cognitive impairments and outdoor spaces associated with long term care facilities, psychiatric, rehabilitation and complex continuing care settings, paediatrics, mental health and palliative care.

The firm has developed a specialty in the design of play environments. Experience includes research and design for play environments in day care settings, private and public sectors, housing developments and healthcare treatment facilities.

In diverse project types and scales of development, the firm has focused on the strong integration of interior/exterior space, site context, the style of the architecture and physical, social, emotional and programmatic needs of the users. Vertechs Design Inc. has a proven track record in design, research and planning.

This work has been recognized by the design community, healthcare field and popular press, attesting to the quality of work.
